University of Michigan

The University of Michigan joined the LEAD family in 1981. Since then, over 800 high school students have benefited from the LEAD experience at the Ross School of Business.

The participants at Ross have met with corporate sponsors such as ArvinMeritor, Ford, Deloitte, General Motors, Owens Corning and Pulte Homes.

LEADers participate in an online simulation where they become owner/operators of a coffee shop, combining all of the disciplines covered through the curriculum.

LEAD SBI 2009 at Michigan, students experienced community action-based learning through team projects with local nonprofits—Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ann Arbor Community Center and the Neutral Zone. Projects such as producing a commercial for the symphony, delivering a wish, and researching/documenting an organization’s history were interwoven with classroom work covering the various business disciplines. Teams shared their projects and research of the nonprofits’ missions and financial/marketing areas through 20-minute multi-media presentations in Blau Auditorium. Students also enjoyed developing their networking skills with current Ross MBAs and BBAs. On- and off-site corporate visits included Google, Deloitte, Nestle, Capital One, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Professional Sports Planning, Ford and General Motors.
