UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS LEAD’s partnership with the College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is now in its fifth year. Since its inception, 156 high school students have participated in LEAD at the College of Business. The University of Illinois, College of Business LEAD Summer Institute’s curriculum is designed to introduce high school students to the concept or meaning of a business education. The curriculumis taught by faculty through interactive course modules that offer students an introductory conceptual idea of such disciplines as accountancy, finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship (among others). The theoretical concepts are brought together through a case competition that allows students to demonstrate what they have learned over the course of the program. Additionally, the LEAD program is design to give students an opportunity to learn about college life and the world of work through corporate visits and presentations from corporate sponsors such as Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst and Young, & BP as well as Illinois, College of Business staff. In 2009, LEAD Corporate partner Deloitte established a pipeline program for the development of future accountants. The program was enhanced with innovative leadership in accounting content and Deloitte arranged for a tracking process of the Deloitte Scholars who were chosen from the program.
