STANFORD UNIVERSITY Stanford University joined the LEAD family in 2005. Since then, 90 high school students have benefited from the LEAD experience. The Stanford LEAD program was built around a business planning challenge sponsored by Apple. The final project required production of a four minute iMovie about the business. Campus MovieFest.com lent the students laptops and video cameras and provided training and technical support. The program’s curriculum included marketing, accounting, economics, organizational behavior, and a simulation of public decision-making. Corporate visits were hands-on. Students were issued assignments on topics designed by Google and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and later presented their findings in the corporate boardrooms. A trip to Medtronic Cardiovascular exposed students to the variety of career opportunities in the medical device field and PR firm Edelman hosted a visit and presentation on public relations. LEADers also explored the non-profit sector with a visit to the East Bay Community Foundation. Presentations by Stanford President John Hennessy and Old Navy founding President Jenny Ming received high praise from program participants. Stanford University program participants visit a wide array of companies throughout the San Francisco Bay area. The participation of the following businesses help ensure that LEADers enjoy a meaningful experience: 3M, Google, Carol H. Williams Advertising, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. |
