Dartmouth College The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College joined the LEAD family in 1997. Since then, over 300 high school students have participated in the LEAD program at Tuck. The program at Dartmouth fosters a unique sense of community. Throughout the three-week schedule students are exposed to a wide variety of business topics, issues, and functions, they are prepared for the college selection and application process, and are given a sense of the career opportunities that exist in business. Classes include all of the functional areas of business including finance, economics, management, marketing, business ethics and leadership. LEADers also take a class taught by the Dean of Tuck. In 2009, Tuck partnered with the Native American Finance Officers Association (NAFOA) during the first week of the elite Summer Business Institute to introduce a very unique program. The Tuck LEAD/NAFOA program provided Native American high school students with the opportunity to learn about economic development and entrepreneurship issues in tribal communities and the importance of business and finance careers for tribal organizations. LEADers had innovative sessions on tribal sovereignty, socially responsible investing, and municipal finance taught by tribal leaders, Native American professionals, Dartmouth Professors, and Tuck Faculty members. The capstone project for the SBI was a Business Plan Competition. LEADers utilized the content of their academic sessions to develop business ideas and presented their business plan to a panel of judges. The LEAD heavy academic load and course schedule was supplemented by corporate sessions with Goldman Sachs, Wellington Management, and Deutsche Bank. Students also had the opportunity to visit Boston, unwind at Six Flags, watch the Fisher Cats in action, and explore college life in the Upper Valley. Over the past five years, corporate site visits and on campus presentations were hosted by the following companies: Goldman Sachs & Co., Putnam Investments, Scripps Network, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and State Street. |
